Merry Christmas to me!

Today, I was finally able to enjoy the Christmas present Matt got for me six months ago - tickets to the Olympic Swim Trials being held in Omaha! He purchased a package for me for July 4th, 5th and 6th (5 sessions total) which is perfect since since it is a holiday weekend. We attended the first sessions this morning and saw an American Record be set by Cullen Jones in the Men's 50 Free. Everyone seemed to be caught off guard by the record this morning because it was set during a heat of the 50 Free (the Semi-Finals were this evening and the Finals are tomorrow night) and because there are no split times in the 50 Free there is no warning that someone is even on pace to set a record.

After we watched the premilinaries of the Women's 800 Free, Men's 100 Fly, and Women's 200 Back we headed to Famous Dave's for some lunch. Then we walked around the Old Market for awhile since it was such a beautiful day - especially for the 4th of July. Then we drove to Children's Hospital (where my mom works) to pick up her camera because mine was running out of batteries and I wanted to be able to take pictures at the finals this evening.

When we arrived back at the Qwest Center tonight we found that all of the seats had a t-shirt sitting on them in either Red, White, or Blue depending on the section.

The evening finals were much more exciting than the morning preliminaries. We got to see two WORLD RECORDS set - Michael Phelps in the 200 IM, and Aaron Peirsol tied the Ryan Lochte in the 200 Backstroke.

One interesting aspect of watching the trials is the fact that the Qwest Center does not typically have a pool. This pool was actually designed and built on a temporary basis and has actually been purchased and will be moved to a new location after it is dismantled. However, you would probably never guess that if you saw it.

There is also a second pool that is not available for the public pool that is used as a warm-up and cool-down pool.
